Is social security really paid for?

SS is in big trouble because for years the Gov. has taken the money paid into the fund and used it for other things. There is not and never has been a "Lock Box" with all the SS money in it. Remember when Bush proposed a modest voluntary change in SS by having people put up to 10% of their SS payments into a private fund. The cries of outrage from the Dems in Washington were deafening. Bush wants old people to starve. Why do you now blame Conservatives for the mess, what have the Democrats done to help.
