CAN TAKING MATHS LITERATURE GET ME INTO A UNIVERSITY?

I am considering taking maths lit because pure maths is way too difficult. But the thing is I still want to further my studies, I am thinking becoming an economist or pyschologist(I'm not sure yet) but will maths lit get me into UCT or any overseas universities? Also how much would an economist and psychologist earn in cape town? Please help*
